Ryde School by Walters and Cohen

I recently was shown around the new Ryde School Design Technology, Art, ICT, entrance and dining hall building.  A very prominent position on the street gives the school a new presence in the town.  The entrance space creates a double height space with stair and walkway around to the first floor art room.  The ground floor has the Design and Technology room and adjacent stores.  The dining hall extends out to the existing playing fields and has great views from the roof of the Solent.  A first floor ICT room cantilevers over the ground floor.

The building makes excellent use of natural light with lots of roof lights with automatic vents, the views out of the glazing is very effective as it frames the existing school building across a courtyard.  The building employs rain water harvesting and is highly insulated.

Overall an excellent addition to the school.
