I went to the Tuner Gallery in Margate designed by Sir David Chipperfield and took these pictures of the building and some of the details. Overall I enjoyed the building and the simpleness of it, there are some good, high quality details and the spaces are ready for artists to use in various ways.
My concerns relate to the acoustics internally – in the galleries it is very noisy, something my son loved due to the echo. Also the external space, in particular the car park and surrounds, is a bit disappointing but considering the initial proposal (Snohetta design prototype blown away and over budget) and the limited budget is understandable.
It will be interesting to see how successful the building is in the future, it is definitely something for Portsmouth to consider due to the lack of a major sea front presence anywhere in Southsea.
